What The Owners Says
"We bought the house back in 1988 and it has been a fantastic family home for us over the years. One of the things we loved immediately was the feeling of space throughout the house, helped by the high ceilings and generous room sizes. The living room has always felt incredibly cosy, especially in the winter with the log burner lit, whilst the dining room has been brilliant as an additional space for hobbies, reading or simply somewhere quieter to escape to.
The house works beautifully throughout the seasons too. The south-facing living and dining rooms enjoy lovely morning sunshine, whilst the kitchen stays naturally cool during hotter summer days. From the upper floors, the views across Walkley Bank allotments and out towards the Rivelin and Loxley valleys are something we’ve never tired of.
We’ve always felt incredibly lucky with the location. The countryside is virtually on the doorstep, with walks through Rivelin and Loxley valleys nearby, easy access to Damflask, Agden and Strines reservoirs, and the Peak District only around 20 minutes away by car. At the same time, Hillsborough shopping centre is within walking distance, so you have the best of both worlds. The neighbours have also been wonderful over the years and there’s a real sense of community here.
The garden has brought us so much enjoyment too. It’s a lovely open space with a south-facing lawn that gets the sun all day, perfect for sitting out, BBQs and outdoor living. The wildflower areas and apple tree attract plenty of birds and bees, whilst the Yorkshire stone paths and patio give it lots of character. One of our favourite things has always been watching the sunset over Stannington on summer evenings.
Another thing we’ve really appreciated is how energy efficient the house has been for a property of this size. The solar panels, solar thermal system and log burner have helped keep running costs manageable, whilst the PV panels also provide a useful annual income.
It’s been a very special home for our family and whilst we’re sad to leave, we’re now looking to relocate out of Sheffield to be closer to family.”
Entrance to the property is through the front door into the hallway, which provides access to the living room, dining room and kitchen, along with stairs rising to the first floor and a door leading down to the cellar.
The living room sits at the front of the property and is a lovely cosy space with plenty of room for seating. The chimney breast with fireplace and wood burner immediately draws your attention, while the exposed floorboards add to the character. Thanks to the elevated position above the pavement, the room also feels surprisingly private.
The dining room is another fantastic reception space and ideal for entertaining. There’s ample room for a large dining table and chairs, a bay window to the front bringing in natural light, and a feature chimney breast to the side wall. To the rear of the room is access through into the kitchen.
The kitchen offers an incredible amount of worktop and storage space, fitted with sleek modern units above and below the worktops. There is an integrated electric oven/grill and electric hob, along with space for a dishwasher and American fridge freezer. One end of the kitchen provides access out to the garden and features a breakfast bar area, while the other leads through to the hallway, downstairs WC, utility room and a further external door to the garden.
On the first floor, the landing immediately stands out thanks to the impressive ceiling heights and gives access to four double bedrooms and the family bathroom.
Bedroom one is positioned at the front of the property and is a generous double room with built-in wardrobes. Bedroom two, also at the front, is another excellent double bedroom with a feature chimney breast. Bedrooms three and four both overlook the rear garden and are again comfortable doubles, with bedroom three currently used as a home office.
The bathroom is a particularly good size and fitted with a bath, separate shower cubicle, WC, wash basin with built-in storage and a towel radiator.
Outside, the property continues to impress. To the front is a small forecourt with steps rising from the pavement to the front door. Sitting at the end of the road gives the house gardens to both the side and rear, creating a fantastic amount of outdoor space. Tucked away by the garage and store is a private patio area, a brilliant spot for morning coffees, summer barbecues or relaxing in the evening. Beyond this are two lawns with established flower beds, while the side garden occupies the former greenhouse area and is filled with further planting.
The garage is accessed both from the garden and via a roller shutter door from the road, complete with power and lighting. Beside the garage is a further good-sized store, providing excellent additional storage space.
Adding to the practicality of the home are solar panels fitted to the roof, helping to reduce running costs and contributing towards the property’s hot water supply.
